The Conservatory welcomes Mr. Chris Smith as one of our guitar instructors this Fall ’09! Mr. Smith teaches guitar for students of all ages and levels. He holds a Bachelor of Music concentrated in Guitar Performance from Samford University. Since his graduation in 2005, he has been teaching and playing music professionally. In addition to performing and recording in the Birmingham area, he teaches with Hunter Street Baptist Church and Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. Having a love for all styles of music, Chris teaches his students the value of learning to read music, as well as having fun with modern pop and rock songs. His primary goal is that the student develops a life long love of music as well as the guitar.
Mr. Smith teaches lessons on Friday afternoons, in the Music Suite area behind the Sanctuary.
Beginner acoustic guitar lessons are taught by Conservatory Director, B.J. Price. Having majored in Instrumental Music Education, Mr. Price received his B.A. from Jacksonville State University with a principal in trumpet. He is also the Associate Minister of Music and Worship here at First Baptist Trussville where he is the primary worship leader for the contemporary worship services.
For first-time students, a suggested beginning age for guitar lessons is 7-9 years old. Mr. Price’s lessons are taught in the Music Suite below the Sanctuary. These lessons are given on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.
